A sad day

by Alison on February 5, 2010

In Brampton, two dogs may face a death sentence because of their looks. Sadly, this may prove to be the reality dog-loving Ontarians are forced to live with since DOLA was thrust upon us.

These dogs did not bite anyone. They didn’t try to bite anyone. They were just seen by the wrong people. Because some city officials think they look enough like ‘Pit Bulls’ (the dogs are actually Boxer/American Bulldog mixes, claims one vet) they face deportation from their homes and province, or worse, death.

Cases like this sicken me. When I imagine someone coming into my home and trying to take my dog… well, I can’t even begin to comprehend the mental anguish those dog owners are going through. It’s not fair, it’s not just. As a citizen of Ontario I demand better from Queens Park.

For the whole story, please check out this Toronto Star article.

For those who wish to help, please consider writing a letter to your MPP asking them to support bill 222 (which would see the ban repealed).
Until this legislation is gone, I fear many more good dogs will be unjustly taken from us.

It’s unbelievable. Those people were minding their own business and along come some City bullies to take the dogs for no apparent reason except their looks!
An absolutely repulsive waste of taxpayer $ and resources. Does anyone honestly feel more safe in Brampton because these dogs were seized? Give me a break!

Thanks for sharing this story, Alison. People, ask yourself what you’re doing to help the situation for dogs in Ontario? If the answer is nothing, it is the wrong answer.

This makes me SO MAD. Deplorable. That poor family. The City should be ASHAMED of itself? How could they possibly be more aware of a dogs background than a series of vets?

Not to mention the stupid law in the first place.

I don’t know what to say. I can’t imagine someone trying to take my dog. Thank you for sharing this story.
