Please Support Bill 222

by Kelly on February 2, 2010

We’ve previously reported about MPP Cheri DiNovo’s efforts to bring some common sense back to dangerous dog legislation in Ontario.

DiNovo’s Bill 222 seeks to repeal provisions in the Dog Owners’ Liability Act that prohibit restricted pit bulls and provide for controls on pit bulls. In other words, it addresses the breed-specific aspects of the poorly-crafted legislation more commonly referred to as DOLA. The Bill also seeks to repeal provisions in the Animals for Research Act that relate to the disposition of pit bulls under that Act. You can read the bill here.

How can you get involved? Here’s one very simple way: use this site to send letters of support to your MPP, Dalton McGuinty and Cheri DiNova. By typing information into a few fields and hitting ’send’, you’ll automatically send letters to your elected politicians, asking them to support Bill 222 and advising them of your opposition to breed-specific legislation.

The process will take you less than five minutes. Hearing from your elected MPP? That might take a bit longer. Mine hasn’t even bothered to respond.
